Marine Engineering is a specialized technical degree which deals with the maintenance and repair of all major mechanical and engineered equipment on board a ship. In short, a typical marine engineer is responsible for the internal machinery functionalities of the ship such as propulsion, refrigeration, electrical and steering systems. This field of study is one of the streams which come under the mechanical engineering branch.

It is a great career option for aspirants who are risk takers, extremely brave and passionate about sailing on board a ship for an extended period of time and especially for those who are willing to serve in the marine and shipping industry.

The starting salary for a cadet normally ranges from 4.5 lakhs to 7 lakhs rupees per annum during the first few years of their work. However, with experience, they can expect to earn more than 60 lakh rupees per annum in India.
