For those interested in the science stream, the ways not only limit to the medical and engineering fields but they also diverge to a career in Photonics. At the global level, today there is a huge demand for skilled professionals in Photonics because a Photonics specialist can work in the role of many professionals, such as engineers, technicians, scientists.

Photonics is the science of light generation, detection, and manipulation through emission, transmission, modulation, switching, amplification, and detection. Though covering all the light’s technical applications over the whole spectrum, most Photonic applications are in the range of visible and near-infrared light. The term Photonics developed as an outgrowth of the first practical semiconductor light emitters invented in the early 1960s and optical fibers developed in the 1970s.

a career in photonics

Increasing Scope:

Today Photonics is being applied mostly in every tech field. Laser treatment, telecommunication, microscopy, advanced spectroscopy, biotechnology, microbiology, medicine, surgery etc. and many such areas, in which the usefulness of Photonics is constantly increasing.

Tomorrow’s career:

In the 20th century, electronics has changed human civilization to a great extent. At the same time, it has been said that in the present 21st century, Photonics will outgrow, because its use continues to increase in different fields. That’s why it is being called future’s career right now. Photonics has been developed by the fusion of optical technology and electronics. It is said to produce light, remove it and send it from one place to another.

Main Part of the Defense:

Many countries of the world are researching night vision technology to strengthen their defense system. The basis of this technology is Photonics. Experts believe that today the defense sector needs can not be completed without Photonics. Due to this, there is a lot of related jobs in the defense sector.

If you want graduation in the qualification of Photonics, then the average criteria lie upon physics in Higher Secondary School. Chemistry and maths subject should have at least 50 percent marks in 12th grade. One must have the minimum of 50 percent marks in graduation and applied physics, electronics in physics, and mathematics as subjects for master’s degree course in Photonics. Students can also get admission in this subject for research in foreign universities.

Reliable courses:

Various types of courses are offered for Photonics in various institutes in India. You can get a graduation or a master’s degree in it. The option of joining M Tech in Photonics, M Phil in Photonics and Ph.D. also lies ahead. Then you can join the research sector where the job is given to M.Tech, M Phil, and Ph.D. holders.

Salaries:

This field is also considered good in terms of salary. In the Government sector, fixed pay scales are available. The private sector offers only 15 to 20 thousand rupees per month to freshers. If the research is linked to the field, then it may be possible that the salary of lakhs of rupees can be awarded on a monthly basis.
